Sesame Slacks

After being donated a bin full of napkins by my Unified Basketball coach Ms. Eby, I knew I had to make something special. I wanted to use a diverse blend of colors and a variety of contrasting textures to create something playful. At the time I had a desire to experiment with circular pockets which led me to think of cookie pockets. This took me to Cookie Monster and I eventually decided to create a pair of Sesame Street-themed pants using the donated napkins as a base. I couldn’t have asked for better materials. When sewn together, the napkins provided a canvas full of untapped potential for me to experiment with. Using feathers upcycled from an old costume, a leftover denim waistband, and embroidery techniques learned from an online course, the Sesame Slacks became a reality. This project reinforces why I believe collaboration is important. Although the pants were created with my mind and hands, without Ms. Eby’s donation, you wouldn’t be reading this today.
