This project made me feel akin to Victor Frankenstein, dissecting attributes from different specimens to cross-breed them together into a more diverse and creative breed. Last year I made a kimono and a bomber jacket which I was happy to include in my 2023 portfolio. I felt that this year they were not on the same level as my other work. This “cross-bred” jacket allowed me to show two of my pieces in one, making diligent use of my limited portfolio space while displaying my courage to sever two finished pieces down the middle, not fully knowing the end result. Some artists might finish a piece of work and never touch it again. I believe in treating my creations like a relationship, constantly feeding them new ideas to help them grow, evolve, and reflect my creative development over time.
