My friend Logan and I were in my studio when he spotted the sketch of this garment and asked me if I could make it for him. Instantly, I was in. I started by sourcing the vibrant purple material as the base of the garment. Next, I maniacally printed all over the fabric with homemade screens, overlapping prints to create a layered, cohesive look. After printing and cutting out my patterns, I scavenged for leftover denim to bring the piece together. I implemented a skill I’d learned in a mending course called sashiko stitching on the sleeves and pockets. I used recycled blankets and my Mom’s old robe to line the garment, keeping Logan warm in the bitter Boston winter. I like this piece because it incorporates multiple mediums. Often it’s either one or the other, but I believe artists should constantly search for ways to fuse different creative processes.
